ZINE: Jars of Clay
We are excited to announce that IVBCF will be launching its first-ever zine! A zine, short for ‘fanzine,’ is a mass-produced, self-published work of original texts and forms of artwork from a single person or small group of people, usually reproduced by photocopier. Zines are produced on any range of topics but is popularly used as a medium to share one’s stories, thoughts, and experiences. On that note, the IVBCF media team would like to invite our fellowship into creating a zine that encapsulates our experiences with God as a way to creatively share our testimonies or things we learned about God this year with one another.
As we prayed and asked God for what the theme of our zine should be, this Bible verse came up:
5 For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.
7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.
A theme brought up during listening prayer was the idea of God being the light and hope in darkness, in which our surrenderance to Him yields victory. Our journeys with God are not always ones that are picture perfect, but ones that also include desert seasons. Our hope is that we can incorporate this theme into the works that are submitted to our zine and share them with members in our fellowship and beyond, testifying to God’s goodness and presence throughout different stages in our walks with Him. This can be in the form of a testimony, a narrative, things that represent your relationship with God, etc.
We will be collecting artwork (paintings, drawings, comics, photography, typography, writing, poetry, etc) all throughout this quarter up until Thursday of week 8 (February 28th) 11:59PM. We encourage everyone to submit, no matter your background in the arts or creative expression, because we believe your story is worth sharing.
Here are some guidelines:
If you are submitting an image, please send it as a JPEG (300 dpi) file
If you are submitting written pieces, please send it as a PDF file
For all pieces, please include a title and a brief 1-2 sentence explanation of your piece, author name, major/minor, and year
If you need assistance documenting your piece through photography, please contact Melanie Nomiya at email@example.com
Take time to ask God & creatively explore the ways that He is speaking to you. This is a time to express yourself and challenge yourself with different mediums of storytelling.

We hope to collect pieces as soon as possible up until week 8 so that we may review the pieces and start production early spring quarter to have distribution of copies available by the end of spring quarter! We are beyond excited to launch this project and hope you will feel encouraged and also challenged to participate! Look out for more details & events in the future such as workshops and fundraisers for this project!
